Abstract: This article examines the second football championship of the Republic of Serbian Krajina in 1993–1994 and the circumstances under which it occurred. The second championship was the only one held in relatively peaceful conditions, considering that the war was still ongoing, but it was also the last to be completed. The competition again had a regional character and culminated in the final tournament in Beli Manastir, Baranya, at the end of July 1994. The title was won by “Šparta” from Beli Manastir. The article is based on press reports from Serbia, the Republic of Srpska, and the Republic of Serbian Krajina, as well as published and unpublished documents and professional literature.

Summary: Despite wartime conditions, professional sports associations were founded in the Republic of Serbian Krajina, and they proceeded to organize sports competitions whenever circumstances allowed. Given the prevalence and popularity of football, the football association was the most organized among them, and football competitions were the most structured and widespread. After the Republic of Serbian Krajina became a United Nations Protected Area, the first football championship was held in the 1992/1993 season. Although the spring part of the championship was canceled due to the Croatian Army’s offensive on the front in Northern Dalmatia, the season concluded with a final tournament, in which “Banija” from Glina won the title. Despite expectations that the second championship would take place under somewhat better circumstances, the ongoing war and the Croatian Army’s offensive in the Medak Pocket area made the autumn portion of the competition impossible. Despite these challenges, the competition was more complete than the previous one and was held on a regional basis in a slightly modified format. After the regional competitions concluded, the final tournament was played in Baranya at the end of July 1994, where “Šparta” from Beli Manastir won the title. Drawing on available documents, press reports, and professional literature, this article aims to present the circumstances in which the second football championship of the Republic of Serbian Krajina was held, reconstruct the competition system, list the participating clubs, and thus shed light on this aspect of life in the war-torn area of the westernmost Serbian state.
