Gavro Burazor
The Second Monograph on Jasenovac Concentration Camp
Abstract: The paper presents a critical review of the conclusions and views expressed in the book on Jasenovac by historian Ivo Goldštajn. The paper reviews and supplements some of the facts presented in the book and points to certain shortcomings in its approach to the topic of Jasenovac Concentration Camp
Key words: Jasenovac Concentration Camp; Independent State of Croatia (NDH), Camp Prisoners, Ustashi.
The author's methodological approach to the topic of Jasenovac Concentration Camp, with high expectations from the scientific and general public, had numerous shortcomings that resulted in the absence of a comprehensive synthesis of the concentration camp in Jasenovac. Thus, a number of fundamental questions remained open, while some were offered substantiated answers. The major drawbacks are its high usage and poor criticism of memoir material, insufficient use of comparison, and lack of concrete conclusions. The value of the study is concentrated in the biographical data of both victims and perpetrators of the atrocities, with a certain disproportion in the victims' cu's, reflected in a smaller number of biographies of Serb and Roma inmates. A thorough approach and deliberation was observed in portraying the role of Archbishop Alojzije Stepinac during the war.
